Seco adds two new geometries to Crownloc® Plus drill family
5/6/2014 2:00:00 PM

Fagersta, May 2014 – Seco recently expanded the highly secure and cost-effective holemaking capabilities of its Crownloc Plus line with the addition of two new geometries. The latest M and L geometries bring added edge sharpness and chip control, respectively, to this exchangeable-tip drill family known for its strong wear resistance in a variety of materials.

The M geometry utilises a free cutting drill point to minimise heat generation and achieve long, predictable tool life in challenging holemaking operations that involve high-temperature alloys, titanium, titanium alloys and stainless steel. The geometry has a TiAIN base coating and low-friction TiN top coating to reduce edge build up. A 10 percent micrograin substrate increases the geometry’s cutting edge toughness and application security.

The L geometry features a flat design with a 140-degree centre point to achieve optimal chip control and high process security when drilling ductile, long chipping materials such as carbon steel. The double land margins on the geometry stabilise the drilling process, this is beneficial in demanding applications such as angled exits. The geometry’s 180-degree angle design also makes it suitable for countersink operations involving bolt heads.

Both the M and L geometries are available in a diameter range from 12 to 19.9 mm and cutting depths of 3xD, 5xD and 8xD with maintained IT9 and IT10 tolerance widths. Furthermore, as with all exchangeable crowns, regrinding and resetting costs are eliminated.

The Crownloc Plus line’s strong, polished drill body design includes deep and wide flutes and a high-strength locking interface. For best results, Seco recommends using these products with the following holders: the Weldon DIN 1835 B/DIN 6535 HB, Type 5834 hydraulic chucks (for cylindrical and –R1 shanks only) or Type 5630 Shrinkfit holders (for cylindrical and –R1 shanks only).
