Seco Standard Material Groups (SMG) help you define and understand tool and workpiece materials. Instead of categorizing materials by how easy they are to machine, SMG identifies them by type, capabilities and characteristics. And the Seco Standard Material Viewer portlet provides a filtered view of materials to help you find where your job fits.
SMG helps you learn more about materials' behavior: How they interact with tooling, how to process them and how to adapt cutting data to work with them. The Standard Material Viewer portlet makes it easy to understand the complex ways in which materials and machining operations work together.
Some materials behave differently after they're annealed, quenched and tempered. The Seco Standard Material Viewer cross references them in more than one SMG group when they belong in more than one place depending on their processing status. In every category, you'll find reference materials to help you decide whether and how to adapt cutting data.
The universe of tool and workpiece materials has expanded in recent years with high-tech additions to the roster of familiar metals. In every industry, manufacturers face a long list of materials that grows by the year. So how do you keep up with all the advanced alloys and challenging workpieces, not to mention all the new tool materials?
The Material Library portlet helps you do just that. It tracks all the Seco Standard Material Groups (SMG) and shows you where the parts and tools for your next job fit in. It also helps you learn more about how to cut individual materials and when to use specific tools.
Know more about SMG
You can search for materials and identify the SMG that includes them. But that's not all you can do on the Material Library portlet. Once you locate materials that are important to your production workflow – or the jobs you hope to acquire – save them in the portlet for future reference and use them throughout the Seco portfolio of digital services.
Explore the growing roster of machining materials and elevate your ability to approach new projects. With the Material Library portlet at your service, your understanding of new materials is just a click away.
