Sustainability Program - Make the SH/FT
At Seco, sustainability is viewed as something that should be integrated into the core of our business. Therefore, one of Seco’s strategic objectives is to be Sustainable in every way. To ensure sustainability is being worked with in an active and structured way, the Seco Make the SHIFT is implemented with four key areas: Circularity, Climate, Champion People and Play FairAt Seco, sustainability is viewed as something that should be integrated into the core of our business. This is to respond to the ongoing challenges in the world related to our environment and ensure our customers that we can continue to supply them with high quality as well as sustainable products.
Therefore, one of Seco’s strategic objectives is to be Sustainable in every way. But what does sustainability look like in practice at Seco? To ensure sustainability is being worked with in an active and structured way, the Seco Make the SH/FT is implemented aligning the work through four key areas: Circularity, Climate, People and Fair Play.
The aim of this program is to ensure a structured as well as comprehensive approach to driving sustainability within Seco. The SH/FT program provides a structured and holistic way of reaching our long-term sustainability targets in the areas: circularity, climate, people and fair play. The program includes not only objectives and targets for our own operations, but also our entire value chain ranging from our suppliers to customers. The program includes yearly targets as well as 2025 targets which all build progress to our 2030 goal.
The SH/FT program engages stakeholders from all over Seco including: EHS, Procurement, Logistics, HR and Product Management. The SH/FT program is a notable example showing that to drive a sustainable business, we must engage everyone in the organization.
The SH/FT targets are reported quarterly internally to track progress and prioritize our sustainability work.
The first area regards circularity with the main aim to be more than 90% Circular by 2030. KPIs which aim to work towards this goal include raw material recycling, steel recycling, and work with packaging material recycling. The aim is to close loops and reduce the need for virgin resources in our operations. Additionally, we aim to have the same level of circularity from our supply chain by 2030.
The SH/FT towards a circular business model allows us at Seco to reduce the negative environmental impact associated with our products and the resources they require thus driving economic sustainability. Additionally, recycled material is found to have a lower climate footprint helping to reduce emissions associated with our supply chain.
Through working with customers through recycling initiatives we can close loops and offer products that are sustainable and circular.

A key part of sustainability is mitigating climate change, therefore, the second area of our SH/FT program relates to climate action and reducing our emissions. This area includes KPIs related to both direct emissions from operations, indirect emissions from our electricity consumption as well as emissions from transport of our products.
Originally the goal was to halve our emissions in our operations by 2030 but due to work with purchasing of green electricity and Renewable energy certificates we have achieved this goal eight years earlier than expected.
However, this is just the start as we aim to drive energy efficiency, tackle transport, and lessen the dependence on renewable energy certificates through building and investing in renewable energy.
Additionally, we also aim to halve our emissions associated with our supply chain by 2030. Sustainable product development, designing the most efficient products and traceability will allow us to reduce not only our carbon footprint but our customers’ as well.
It is vital to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, which is why Seco has developed safety as a strong part of our culture. We provide safety training, digital safety learning, stress awareness for managers and well-being support.
We are working tirelessly to reduce the rate of injury and occupational illness year on year. One of the ways we intend do this is to extend our health and well-being programs for our employees to every country.
We offer development opportunities, mentoring and coaching and free access to e-learning platforms to help our employees to develop in their careers.
The fourth aspect of the SH/FT program connects to driving social sustainability. We play fair includes targets related to gender diversity and community involvement. We actively strive for a diverse and inclusive work environment. We offer all employees the opportunity to engage and support their local community. We offer volunteering opportunities, education and careers events and charity fundraising for causes close to our heart.
Another aspect of this SH/FT area regards a sustainable supply chain. Our work aims to ensure and track compliance with the supplier code of conduct; additionally, building transparency on our supplier’s level of circularity and their climate impact.
