Cyber Essentials Plus (CE+) is an advanced level of certification under the UK's Cyber Essentials scheme, supported by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
This certification ensures that organizations have implemented essential security controls effectively to protect against common cyber threats. To achieve CE+, we underwent a rigorous assessment, including vulnerability testing and compliance with five key security controls. The certification demonstrates that we are serious about cybersecurity and have taken the necessary steps to safeguard sensitive data.
Jimmy Connor, Business Professional – GDA, identified a critical gap in our cybersecurity requirements for defense and government projects, which increasingly demand this accreditation. He says, “When we looked at the growing needs of our customers in the defense sector, it was clear that achieving Cyber Essentials Plus was not just important – it was essential for us to remain competitive and for success in this field." This insight from Jimmy highlighted the business need, driving the effort forward.
With Jimmy's identification of the gap, the IT team and our Innovation Hub team, worked diligently to address the issue. After securing the initial Cyber Essentials certification, we pursued the more advanced CE+ level, which required an external audit and daily system scans.
On November 8, 2024, we were awarded the CE+ certification, marking a significant milestone. It is important to note that Cyber Essentials is a yearly accreditation, meaning work is never done. We must remain vigilant as cyber threats continue to evolve.
