Seco’s new Perfomax drill head is making waves within Norway’s off-shore oil industry. Seco’s Stavanger-based reseller Digernes has seen three of its biggest customers switch to the high-performing new product.THE OFFICES OF Norwegian Seco reseller Digernes are located in Norway’s Rogaland region, just south of the city of Stavanger. The city is Norway’s third largest and is commonly regarded as the oil capital of Norway.
“There is a lot of off-shore industry in our region,” explains Aril Digernes, CEO of Digernes. “Many of our customers are involved in the production of oil in some way.” Outside of the petroleum sector, Digernes also supplies Kverneland Group, an internationally renowned manufacturer of agricultural machinery based in the region.
Seco was already established as the region’s biggest supplier of cutting and drilling tools with a range of tool holders, when in September 2017 it enjoyed instant success with the release of the Perfomax drill insert. Three of Digernes’ biggest customers have already replaced all of their drill heads with the new product.
Specifically engineered to help minimize chip contact, the drill has a unique wave-pattern flute design. The DS2050 and DS4050 insert grades recommended for use with the new Perfomax are especially suited to drilling heatresistant materials.
Malm Orstad is an engineering and fabrication company whose primary focus is the oil & gas and defense sectors.
It is also a part of 4C Solutions, a business that draws on the expertise of four companies with extensive experience in the energy sector to provide other companies with some 200 products and services. In January 2018, 4C Solutions won a large contract with China Offshore Oil Engineering to repair pipelines in the South China Sea.
When Seco launched the new Perfomax drill, Norwegian Seco reseller Digernes decided to conduct tests using the skilled technicians at Malm Orstad. The technicians were so impressed with the product that Malm Orstad subsequently decided to swap out almost all of their indexable drills with the Perfomax.
